GT Power Origin Line Utilities v3.00
AC Software
What It Does
------------
Creating origin lines in SCHEDULE.BBS is difficult and cumbersome. It is
also difficult to see what your creation looks like. Now there is a program
that will allow you to view AND edit your origin line at the same time.
Orig355e.exe allows you to view your origin line just as it will appear on
messages (but in ANSI color!) and edit it at the same time. This allows you
to see the results of your labors instantly! Orig300d.exe simply displays
your current origin line.
Limitations
-----------
At present, ORIG300?.EXE can handle only 255 characters. To get an idea
of how long that is, observe the following:
.ORIGIN: xxx/xxx - ............................................................
...............................................................................
...............................................................................
.....................................
This is probably more than enough for most origin lines. However, if
enough interest is shown, I will attempt to change the programs to handle
longer origin lines.
ORIG300D.EXE
------------
This program MUST be in the directory with SCHEDULE.BBS in order to work.
If not, the program will abort with an obscure error message. To run it, just
type ORIG300D. The screen will clear and display your origin line.
ORIG300E.EXE
------------
This program MUST be in the directory with SCHEDULE.BBS in order to work.
If it is not, the program will not run. To run it, type ORIG300E and press
enter/return. The program will clear the screen and display your current
origin line. You can use the normal arrow keys to move one character in any
any direction. Alt-A and Alt-F will move the cursor one word left and right,
respectively. The delete and insert keys work as you would expect. . .
somewhat. The behavior of the text is somewhat odd, especially with more than
one line of text. Try it and you'll see what I mean. It will take time to
get used to it, until you remember that the program creates a 255 byte string
and inserting or deleting a character affects the output as much as the
string.
To save your new origin line, or just exit the program, press ESC. The
program will rewrite your SCHEDULE.BBS with the new origin line. Although no
harm will come to this file, it is always a good idea to have a backup copy
of such an important file.
COMMENTS
--------
Comments about this utility can be sent via GT netmail to 006/008.
Please: if you discover any bugs, or can think of additional ways to enhance
this program, let me know. (Note: I suggest you keep a backup copy of
SCHEDULE.BBS around. This is not because there are known bugs; it is just
good practice and will prevent the loss of this important file.)
